World Religions murals project
- Cantell.

|
Every year, Cantell Year 9 students are given the
opportunity to participate in a special art project; the
results of which become a permanent fixture in the school
environment.
The aim of the special project is to encourage a closer
sense of ownership of the school environment among students;
and also to give them a chance to get involved in the sort
of art processes and workshops that they may not have
participated in before.
It also enables those students who are particularly gifted
at art to bring their work into the public arena. [click

Southampton Interfaith Link
Sunday 30th March 2008
Who is God? Southampton Interfaith Link welcomed a broad
cross-section of guests to the Abu Baker Mosque to explore
this eternal question. Not surprisingly, two hours was not
quite enough to answer it fully.
Speakers from the Baha’i, Buddhist, Christian, Jewish,
Muslim and Sikh communities presented their personal views
to try to shed some light on the matter. Following a
vigorous Q&A session and round-table discussions it was the
similarities in the views of those present that was most
striking, and those looking for division among the faith
communities represented in the city would have been
disappointed.
Despite the misconceptions that we can gain of the different
religions, the theme of understanding our God or spiritual
life-force through the examples of the founders of the world
faiths was repeated by each contributor. Essentially we all
believe in the same values.
The meeting was an excellent illustration of Southampton
Interfaith Link’s motto “Speak with pride, listen with
respect”. The group is for anyone who is interested in
meeting with people from faiths other than their own.
The next public event is the Peace Walk on the 1st June
2008. This event is rapidly growing in popularity and is an
opportunity to visit many places of worship around
Southampton and to learn more about the faith of others.
Everyone is welcome |

Fragments of another
life
When people flee their homes and homelands because of
persecution, they are often lucky to escape with their lives
- and precious little else.
In this exhibition,
photographer Rhonda Klevansky portrays 50 per recent
arrivals to the United Kingdom with few mementoes of their
previous lives that they did manage to salvage, and digital
artist Birgit Muller presents the situation asylum seekers
find themselves in while waiting for a Home Office decision. |
